Updated 27th March, 2018

The 2017/18 whale shark season started on 4th November, almost exactly when we would expect it to, and there have been multiple whale shark sightings almost every day since then. In total, over 80 different individuals have been seen here so far, of which 45 are “new” whale sharks and the rest are repeat visitors. Over the past 5 seasons, including this season, 253 different individual whale sharks have been identified here, the vast majority of which are juvenile males between 5 and 7 metres long. Although a couple of the whale sharks seen at the start of this season were large, mature males around 8 metres in length, we have been seeing many more young sharks recently of 5 metres or less with the smallest being “just” 3 metres long.

You can review the statistics below from our own whale shark tours this season and enjoy the beautiful video filmed by a guest a few seasons ago.
